It starts out as a nuisance, but can become inflamed, oozing, and infected. With diabetes or poor circulation the risk is greater: up to 1 in 3 people with diabetes may have a foot ulcer during their lifetime, and a small wound can become complicated. Cutting it at home usually makes it worse.
